SAYRE
Newspaper Unknown
March 1887
Sayre, Rev. A. - Another Old Settler Gone. On last Sunday at 1 O'clock P.M. Rev A. Sayre, living four miles west, passed away after a long sickness with Brights disease. Mr. Sayre was born in West Virginia, March 4th, 1819, was married to Miss Rachel McDaniel in 18--. He moved to Iowa in 1854 and has been a resident of south township for 17 years. He has been a faithful, consistent member of the M. E. church for 50 years, serving the last few years as a local minister. He was a widely known in this country, and during the past year of life he has been an invalid, although able most of the time to be around. His funeral was conducted at Elm Grove on Monday, and the remains of this respected citizen, faithful Christian, devoted husband and noble father, were laid quietly to rest in the Elm Grove Cemetery. He leaves nine living children, and goes home to Heaven to meet another who preceded him. His aged wife also survives him. J. K. and D. W. Sayre, tow of his sons, were present at the funeral coming from Lone Lake, Kansas in response to a telegram. We know of no better way to close this printed tribute to one with whom we have been personally acquitted, and who has left such a noble history behind him as an example, than by quoting a poem written by Rev. N. C. Weede, now deceased, and given to us before his death: | SAYRE, Absolom (I319)

Shirley Johnson
Shirley Johnson, passed away July 17, 2012 after a courageous two year battle with cancer.
She was born Shirley Mary Bagnall, July 6, 1930 in Bloomfield, New Jersey. After WWII, her family moved to Renton, Washington, where she met Forrest Johnson in high school. They married in 1950 and settled on Bainbridge Island to raise their two children. In 1987, they moved to Darrington where they have resided ever since.
Shirley was blessed with a beautiful voice and as a young girl took lessons at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. She enjoyed choral singing and for several years was the soloist at the Rolling Bay Church on Bainbridge. Shirley loved her country and took immense pride in her three older brothers who served in combat as Marines during World War II. She had a great interest in politics and served as President of the Kitsap Republican Women's Club. Later she was elected Vice-chairman of the 29th District Republicans.
In Darrington, Shirley started a small flock of sheep to support her wool spinning hobby. She entered her fleeces in various fairs and shows, winning numerous ribbons, culminating in a "Best of Show" against entrants from all over the Northwest.
Her greatest pride and enjoyment in life was her family. She is survived by her husband, Forrest; daughter, Diane Miller (Budd); son, Forrest Jr. (Randi); six grandchildren, Sam Miller (Anne), Ben Miller, Ned Miller (Jill), Devin Johnson (Courtney), Amanda Johnson, Brandon Johnson; and four great-grandchildren; brother, Walter Bagnall (Ruth); and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, her mother and two of her brothers.
A private family service will be held at the Transfiguration Episcopal Church in Darrington. Memorial donations may be made to the (www.cancer.org). - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/heraldnet/obituary.aspx?n=shirley-johnson&pid=158703094#sthash.HlECFnxK.dpuf | BAGNALL, Shirley Mary (I271)

The McVicker line as presented in this work was done for Mona Bond when she joined the DAR about 1935. The notes here and birth dates other than Joseph were found on rootsweb.com. Mona's file only had the children Duncan, James, John and Joseph
Captain Duncan McVicker died on the farm of his son Alexander McVicker (1773-1832) on Jan 19, 1818 and is buried in the cemetery about 1/4 mile west of Schellcburg in Bedford Co, PA., but his wife is not buried there--although she is mentioned on his later monument as "Annie Laurie". This was done by Ida Rosanna Hamaker, great great granddaughter on the erection of the monument by her about 1925. The name "Annie Laurie" seems a poetical of fanciful one for the name of Nancy McCullum which was not found by Miss Hamaker. The name of Nancy McCullum has been verified by testimony of descendants of James McVicker, the oldest son, who settled in or about Morgantown, about 1793. Old established McVicker and McCullum families have claimed that Nancy McCullum was the name of Duncan McVicker's wife throughout the generations. (From Jean Belzer )
Duncan came to the United States in 1757 with three of his brothers and settled in Trenton, New Jersey. He served in the American Revolution and was a paymaster for General George Washington, at Valley Forge.
Pennsylvania archives, 6th series, Vol. 3, pg 25-26; Lt. Duncan McVicker, acting captain, served in Col. Aaron Hankinsons 2nd Regiment, Sussex Co. New Jersey. Militia-Continental Service Revolutionary War.
From the History of Bedford, Somerset and Fulton Counties 1884:
Duncan McVicker was from New Jersey and was an early resident of what was known as the Baker Farm around 1880. The farm is located in Harrison Township, Bedford Co., Pennsylvania.
A captain in the 2nd regiment, New Jersey Continental line.
From the Family Bible of son Alexander McVicker:
"My father Duncan McVicker departed this life on Munday morning the 19th of January 1818. Aged seventy nine years."
It should be noted that there was another Duncan McVicker at this time who is in WV:
The following is from Wilmer Kerns' "Historic Records of Old Frederick and Hampshire Counties, VA" (1992, Heritage Books, Inc., Bowie, MD, p. 260):
"McVicker, Duncan (Dunkin) and wife Jane (nee McConnell) were residents of Hampshire County. Duncan died sometime prior to December 15, 1815, the date that his real estate was settled among his heirs.
Their children were:
Eleanor McVicker married Thomas Hook;
Catherine McVicker married Charles Capper;
John McVicker married Jane ____;
Nancy McVicker married James Kelso;
Archibald McVicker married Elizabeth ____, and they resided in Ohio in 1815;
Mary McVicker married Thomas McBride;
Margaret McVicker married Frederick Spaid; and
James McVicker purchased the Hampshire County farm. Source: Deed Book 20, pp. 258-260, Hampshire County court house."

These parents for Lawrence are very tentative. In 1870 Lawrence was living with a James SHEEDY and Catherine. On a banking document for James SHEEDY it says he was from County Waterford. I am assuming that Lawrence is related to James in some way, possibly a nephew. There was only one baptism for a Lawrence SHEEDY born about the right time. | Family (F116)
