- The McVicker line as presented in this work was done for Mona Bond when she joined the DAR about 1935. The notes here and birth dates other than Joseph were found on rootsweb.com. Mona's file only had the children Duncan, James, John and Joseph
Captain Duncan McVicker died on the farm of his son Alexander McVicker (1773-1832) on Jan 19, 1818 and is buried in the cemetery about 1/4 mile west of Schellcburg in Bedford Co, PA., but his wife is not buried there--although she is mentioned on his later monument as "Annie Laurie". This was done by Ida Rosanna Hamaker, great great granddaughter on the erection of the monument by her about 1925. The name "Annie Laurie" seems a poetical of fanciful one for the name of Nancy McCullum which was not found by Miss Hamaker. The name of Nancy McCullum has been verified by testimony of descendants of James McVicker, the oldest son, who settled in or about Morgantown, about 1793. Old established McVicker and McCullum families have claimed that Nancy McCullum was the name of Duncan McVicker's wife throughout the generations. (From Jean Belzer )
Duncan came to the United States in 1757 with three of his brothers and settled in Trenton, New Jersey. He served in the American Revolution and was a paymaster for General George Washington, at Valley Forge.
Pennsylvania archives, 6th series, Vol. 3, pg 25-26; Lt. Duncan McVicker, acting captain, served in Col. Aaron Hankinsons 2nd Regiment, Sussex Co. New Jersey. Militia-Continental Service Revolutionary War.
From the History of Bedford, Somerset and Fulton Counties 1884:
Duncan McVicker was from New Jersey and was an early resident of what was known as the Baker Farm around 1880. The farm is located in Harrison Township, Bedford Co., Pennsylvania.
A captain in the 2nd regiment, New Jersey Continental line.
From the Family Bible of son Alexander McVicker:
"My father Duncan McVicker departed this life on Munday morning the 19th of January 1818. Aged seventy nine years."
It should be noted that there was another Duncan McVicker at this time who is in WV:
The following is from Wilmer Kerns' "Historic Records of Old Frederick and Hampshire Counties, VA" (1992, Heritage Books, Inc., Bowie, MD, p. 260):
"McVicker, Duncan (Dunkin) and wife Jane (nee McConnell) were residents of Hampshire County. Duncan died sometime prior to December 15, 1815, the date that his real estate was settled among his heirs.
Their children were:
